Centre Announced the full list of Smart Cities Awards 2020 Winners on 25th June
The Central Government of India has announced the full list of Smart City awards 2020 winners under the ‘Smart Cities Mission’ on Friday, June 25. The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry evaluated smart cities to give the Smart City awards across a gamut of themes like Social Aspects, Governance, Culture, Urban Environment, Sanitation, Economy, Built Environment, Water, Urban Mobility.
The awards were announced to commemorate six years of the Smart City Mission on Friday, 25th June. For the year of the pandemic, additional parameters of sustainable business model of Integrated Command and Control Centres and innovation in Covid-19 management were also counted for the Smart City Awards 2020.
Specially 100 Smart Cities Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 June 2015. A total of ₹98,000 crore (US$14 billion) was approved by the Indian Cabinet for the development of 100 smart cities and the rejuvenation of 500 others.
Smart Cities Awards 2020
Under the Smart City awards 2020 in which Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Surat (Gujarat) won the award jointly for their overall development. Whereas Uttar Pradesh emerged on the top among all states, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu under the Smart City Awards, 2020.
At present under Smart Cities Mission, 5,924 projects worth ₹1,78,500 crore have been tendered so far and 2,665 projects worth ₹45,080 crore have been fully completed, data by the ministry shows.

• According to the ministry, Ahmedabad bagged the ‘Smart Cities Leadership Award’, followed by Varanasi and Ranchi in the second and third spots respectively.
